Ruby not updating globally. What can I do?

I'm trying to go through the steps in the video. I had Ruby installed already, but I figured I might as well update to the latest stable version (2.3.1).

I typed in: rbenv install 2.3.1 I had to add 'sudo' to get it to work, but at that point it installed.

Then I typed rbenv global 2.3.1

I did this both with and without sudo, and it seemed to work, but when I enter 'ruby -v' it always still says I have 2.2.1p85, and it won't let me install rails till I update.

Can anyone help?
