Sass --watch not working

I'm running windows 7, installed ruby and sass. Following the video instructions on sass everything worked except for when I get up to watching a sass file. Console states that the directory is being watched but any modification i do to the scss file doesn't give a 'file has been updated' msg in the console & the css file created by --watch isn't updated to reflect the changes. Following posts on the forum I installed ruby dev kit and installed wdm (& restarted windows) but still nothing changed.

You wont get an update message in the terminal or command prompt if using windows, everytime you'll update the scss file check the css file and see if it got updates. try typing a false css statement in the scss file and run --watch and see if it gives you an error, if it does the file is getting updated according to the changes youre making to the scss file.

that's not true. I get an update msg through the console as long as I'm not using the desktop at the directory I'm watching. I should have deleted this post.
