I'm looking for a good screen recording tool to be used in recording something like a WordPress tutorial. Free is great, but I'm ok with spending some money if its worth it. Any suggestions?

13,564 PointsHi Seth!
If you are on a Mac then you already have a recorder built in to Quicktime Player which is actually very good! However, if you want to use something else instead you could always try Screenflow.
For Windows I would recommend Camtasia Studio! It is a great video recording software which also comes bundled with editing software. It's awesome!
If you would like any more recommendations or if you have any questions feel free to ask!

39 PointsHey Seth Duncan,
I'm not sure what operating system your running, but thats fine since most of the good recorders are made for most os's. If you want to check them out just google the bolded text.
If you want a really good screen recorder try out Camtasia Studio, it comes with an onboard video editor but it totals up to a jaw dropping £206.50 I personally think this is the best screen recorder because of the variety of options it has.
If you want a free alternative to Camtasia Studio try out Camtastia it is not nearly as good as Camtasia but it does the job! It is a great piece of freeware, but unfortunately only available on Windows PC's.
If you want a great screen recorder that does the job but is quite affordable, check out Faststone capture, I believe it is something near $17.
If you want a good recorder but don't want to download it check out Screencast-O-Matic it is downloadable as well though. It is very limited in options, and has a logo on the bottom of all videos recorded with it.
Good luck!
Kind Regards,

911 Points(For mac) I use Screenflow. Even though it's not the best software, it's free, does the job and is easy to use. It also won't leave a watermark on your videos.
If I had the money, I would get Camtasia, though. I hear great things about it.

39 PointsHi Stephanie Bercht,
I just wanted to let you know that Screenflow is actually $100. So it is no where near being free:D If you mean Quicktime player, it is a built in screen recorder.

Arman

11,844 PointsThanks everyone! I'll give Quicktime a shot first since I already have it, but if that doesn't pan out I'll give Screenflow a shot.
Great input!

13,564 PointsGreat choice! I have recorded some videos on Quicktime myself and it certainly does a great job!
Good luck with the videos.

7,609 PointsIn case anyone is looking for a Windows solution, Snagit by TechSmith is my absolute favorite for recording screen captures. They also make Camtasia which is far more robust (and expensive), but for basic tutorials, Snagit has made screen captures so simple. I use it all the time.

10,540 PointsI have to second the Screenflow recommendation.
It's certainly not cheap, but the editing features are well worth it. If your aim is to make professional-looking and -sounding videos, then Screenflow is a good bet. You can record the video and audio separately, add freeze frames, and splice clips together very easily to make sure everything flows properly. Investing in something like a Snowball from Blue Microphones will get your audio top-notch, and with about $150 invested you can make videos which are unmistakably professional.

20,141 PointsCustomize through Ezvid folder ~ the duplicates.
There's an ezvid (tends to be a blurry scaled down screen resolution) version and original copy located in the same file folder of saved project.
Works like a charm. Only take away would be some of ezvid setting may not show up on the original recording if you choose to upload the original version instead of ezvid version but it's free.
