Seeking collaborators! Need front-end dev, designer, and marketer interested in building their portfolio.

Update: The designer role has been filled! Still looking for

  1. Front end developer
  2. Marketing guru
  3. Possible database person

Hello!

I've been working to build my project portfolio (extremely important if you're trying to land a job in tech), and I'm interested in building a project collaboratively with some people who would compliment my skills. Two main reasons why:

  1. It's extremely important to be able to work collaboratively in tech, and so it's good experience and something to point to in interviews
  2. I have strengths and weaknesses, and working with people who have strengths where I don't will result in a better end product

If you feel the same way, and happen to mesh with my skillset, let's connect!

My strengths:

  • PHP back-end stuff (although databases are a soft spot - if you're good at them, I'd definitely be interested in working with you)
  • Conceptual, high-level thinking
  • Mathy things
  • Git (not github - see below)

My weaknesses:

  • Design
  • Front-end coding (I can do it, but it's not my strong suit)
  • Online marketing (the project I have is a web app for users, so we need users!)
  • Github (I know git, but don't have any experience pushing things to Github, collaborating with people, writing good readme files, etc)
  • Working on tech projects in teams!

Here's what I'm looking for, ideally (note, I'm thinking this will be 1-3 people in addition to me, so if you only have some of this, that's fine):

  • Someone who's good at my weaknesses
  • Someone who's at least most of the way through a track here on Treehouse, preferably completed a track and looking for project-based learning opportunities
  • Every member of the team should be somewhat comfortable with git, as I would like to use github as a central collaboration point (If you don't know git, but are interested, still let me know - you'll want to take the console basics and github courses here on treehouse. Dave MacFarlane has a great intro to git workshop as well that would be good to check out).

About the project:

I'll give you more details once we've established a team, but basically, it will be a web app where public transit users here in Portland (at first!) can sign up for an account, and get email alerts when it's time to leave work to catch the next ride home. This will require a good deal of back-end work, which I will handle, but I would love to have help with the front end and possibly marketing. Note, I'm not trying to make money with this, but I think it could be useful, and I'd like to get it in front of as many Portlanders as possible. Being able to say "I worked on building this web app that X number of people use" will also be attractive to future employers.

If this sounds interesting to you, and you think it could be a good addition to your project portfolio, let me know below! You can also contact me on my site at gregkaleka.com/contact

Cheers!

-Greg

I'm interested. My strengths are front-end. I'm familiar with git. My weakness is i'm not SUPER with javascript but learning.

I'd be interested in helping with Front-End and/or PHP-PDO help. I can also help with debugging/testing and implementation. I do know JavaScript, though it's a bit rusty, but I've been working on dusting it off lately through courses here.

I'd also be interested in routing this app to Pittsburgh's transit system.

Interesting. I think, I could help you with front-end part and I definitely need a good project for my portfolio.

Thanks for the interest, guys! If you could, please share some samples of your work. I understand if you don't have huge portfolios or anything (that's what we're here for, right?), but given all the interest (I've also had some private emails through my site), I want to make sure we're the right fit :).

Emailing me through my site may be easier, since I'll be able to directly reply to you there.

Thanks again!

I don't have much currently but you can view my website. ChynoDeluxe.com

Thanks. I'm looking to grow my portfolio so If I can help I'd be happy to be apart of your project.

Nice, indeed!

Greg, do you still looking for? I just started to looking for the same. I made https://amfi.herokuapp.com. I'm starting new project now. I'm focused on JS, reading You Don't Know JS and Angular ng-book and docs. I have plan to build Express API and focus more on front, even I'm interested to read and learn more on Node. Did you get a job?
