3,101 PointsSelecting Web Hosting Service Provider
Hi everyone, i am currently following the front end development track. So far from what i have learned i have made a website about myself and as i go along i will be making more websites to create a portfolio so i can showcase in future. I am going to host my websites and i have selected inter server as my provider for the services. It provides everything that i might need in future with affordable price. Here is the link. I just wanted some recommendation about this, here is the link //www.interserver.net/

They do look like a reputable web hosting company.
The key features and qualities I look for in a web host are the following:
Server uptime. Can they guarantee industry leading uptime. Quality readily available technical support, both email and telephonically. Give them a call and ask a few questions. Site Backup. Do they offer rolling backups? Number of domains and subdomains. Can you have more than 1 domain per hosting package, if not it means you'll have to take out a new hosting package for every domain. Enough storage for your needs. Bandwidth - this is the amount of data that your web host allows you to upload and download from your site, i.e the traffic to your site. How many email accounts are offered with your hosting and domain. Language, Framework, and Database support - these are all key for making anything more than a simple site. Choice of OS of your server - are both Linux and Windows offered
There are a few more consideration but the above are the most important for me. From a scan of InterServer's website it does look like they offer all of the above.
Good luck!

16,191 PointsI personally use a shared plan on Host Gator. This means that I simply share a server with other people. They offer unlimited domains and databases, which is helpful for hosting client sites. Also keep in mind that you are limited to static sites, php, and rails with most shared services. In the future you might use something a little more involved, like Heroku or DigitalOcean. I would also definitely check out Web Hosting For Students as they are very friendly towards Treehouse students. Whatever you choose, make sure that they use cPanel and not proprietary software. Uptime guarantees can be lies, but if you go with a larger company, generally (generally...) support is better.
