set featured image option not displaying

ive added the add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails' ); function but the set featured theme support option is not displaying.

On the post or page edit screen, click Screen Options at the top right. Can you see Featured Image with a tick box next to it?

found the answer you have to tick the box in CPT UI for Featured Image under settings.

actually sorry i realised i was in the wrong section i can see it on pages but not in the portfolio section where it should be. . and if i click up on the screen options there is no featured image with a tick box
