2,175 PointsSetting Up Project Directory
Hi All,
I am going through the treebook social site lesson, and have a question about the first video that uses terminal. I am unsure as to how to set up a directory for the project. Does one simply make a folder and direct all of the files that terminal creates to that folder? I went through the rest of lesson fine, but couldn't replicate the first step in which the instructor sends everything to the 'Project' directory: I had to just set it up on the default I tried setting up a Project folder on my desktop, but terminal says there is no such file or directory.
Cheers!

29,275 PointsYour already in your "Projects" directory. Just do rvm use 1.9.3.

29,275 PointsI'm not exactly sure what your problem is but try doing the Console Foundations course. It will give you some basic on how to use the terminal, (which will be used a lot in the Ruby on Rails course).

2,175 PointsOK I'll check that out. My issue was that they had set up a directory for the project, called 'Project', and I didn't know how to do that in order to follow along.

29,275 PointsI just setup my own directory in the finder on my Mac, (I don't know what you have). And name it Ruby, (you won't be referencing to that name very much in the project). Don't worry about what you name it a long as you remember it.

2,175 PointsWeird, I tried doing that, but terminal said the directory didn't exist. It is working out fine, other than my being able to choose where to set up all the project files. Previously, I set up the project and then moved it where I wanted it to go. But, I don't know why terminal says it can't find the directory?

29,275 PointsCan I see a screenshot of your file layout and your terminal code.

2,175 PointsSure!
Terminal text below. I just set up a folder on my desktop for convenience.

29,275 PointsIs your "Projects" folder at the root of your directory? For an example you "Desktop" and "Downloads" folders are at your root. If so do this:
cd Projects

2,175 PointsThe Projects folder is in my Desktop folder. So, I believe that it isn't at the root? I tried cd Projects:
