Should I abandon the treebook(Build a Simple Ruby on Rails Application) to the "Build a Todo List Application with Rails 4" as a Ruby on Rails beginner 2016? I'm using Rails 4.

I am just wondering if there is something I could learn first from the Rails 3... reebook(Build a Simple Ruby on Rails Application).

Hi Ojong,

There are so many courses surrounding the Todo list application, that you won't miss out on anything by stopping Treebook, in my view.

However, make sure you do the courses in the right order! The order of the courses that enhance the original application isn't very clear; I can try to help with that, if you want. The Todo list course is challenging and you will learn a lot.

Yes Steve. Please help with the order. Thanks!

I started with the Rails Development track. That's a really useful set of courses that covers off many essential tools from Rails, through some other language, version control, databases etc. These are all essential and extremely useful!

Start with that; get the basic application (called ODOT) running, and then we'll go through the other courses available that build on the application. That's here the order gets a little tricky. But you're a way off that yet; wor through the track, ask a lot of questions, and learn lots first!

Thanks Steve! Actually I just need the Ruby on Rails course plan. I am okay in HTML/CSS/ Some javascript and PHP. I just wanted to learn a new language . The thing with the Rails Treebook Application is that it was build on a previous(3...) version of Rails. Some features are depreciated.

My doubt was if there is something I have to learn from the Treebook application that isn't in the Build a ToDo list App( Rails 4...).

Thanks anyway!

Yeah - you can't complete Treebook in Rails 4.

If you're looking for Ruby on Rails stuff, do all the Ruby courses first - they really help with the Rails piece.

Then:

ODOT Layouts Assets Partials Forms Blank slates Polish

That should keep you out of trouble for a while!!

I was asking myself the same question. But I've decided to do/learn every lesson, tutorial, how to, etc. that I can find just to learn what I can.

And most tutorials have you follow along so you'll learn from repetition as well. I wouldn't abandon anything at this point because the more you learn the better you will be.
