Hi..
I just completed my first year at uni and I have just found a part time job/internship for a web development role. Currently, I am familiar with HTML, CSS, JavaScript & a bit of jQuery. I have been learning AJAX too and I'm planning to learn Object Oriented JavaScript as well as some back-end languages.
However, for the web development job, I have to learn WordPress which I am very clueless about at the moment but I am willing to learn. My main worry is, should I just start learning WordPress for the job whilst getting more familiar with hand coding or should I take my time and wait till I get better at coding? By the way, I enjoy coding more than designing.
Thanks.

I think the answer lies in your final sentence I enjoy coding more than designing.
Learn what you need for your job, but continue building your coding skills as you can. Surely you'll eventually find the opportunity to use those as your primary job role.

37,463 PointsVery true guys, I have been thinking of the same thing. On the other hand, I have uni projects too and according to my lecturers, second year will be the most challenging year as it will include more intense coding, etc.. This is the reason why I am thinking twice of the job.
I wouldn't have had second thoughts about it if all I had to do was code in HTML, CSS, JS & jQuery but now I have to learn WordPress from scratch which will take a bit of time too. Ahh :(
