Should I take another track?

I am currently enrolled in the Web Design track, do you think I need to add the Web Development course to my list. I would much rather move on to Wordpress Development. Has anyone done both and what is your experience?

Thanks!

Mike :)

It's all up to you. It depends on what your goals are. If you want to learn Wordpress Development, then do that. I personally feel like it's useful to know about general Web Development before doing any of the others though (excluding business). Knowing your basic html and css are pretty useful when starting to deal with websites.

Thanks for your response, I agree but I feel as though I am getting that through the Web Design course and just wondering why the development course was so long if its only added javascript.

Thanks again!

The web dev course goes much more in-depth with HTML and CSS. And JavaScript isn't a small subject. When you're writing JavaScript, you're now in the realm of programming which is a completely different beast than dealing with HTML and CSS.

The web design course teaches you just enough web dev stuff so that you know what you're looking at when someone wants you to design the look of their website. It also goes more into design principles and goes over things like Photoshop and Illustrator.

I think there is a Learn WordPress (Capital P Dangit!) track on Treehouse. but like Samuel said above, it is a great idea to learn front end web development first although it is not required.

Hope this help! :) -Devin

It really depends on your goal, in my case I wanted to learn how to build wordpress themes, but I had little knowledge about PHP. My first goal was to finish the PHP track, after that I moved on to Wordpress Track which im 3 hours away from finish it.

I haven`t because the last course requires you to know JavaScript, so, Im building themes like crazy just to practice and learning JavaScript + jQuery.
