Site Feedback

I just finished coding my first site ever. I am sure it's not perfect but Im proud of it. I'm going to be using it to get work experience. So any kind of honest critique/feedback on the look and behavior of my site is appreciated.

Here's my site. www.mannydominguez.com

Hi Manny,

I like the overall design of your site and the colours, images and elements work really well together. One thing I would change is the links becoming transparent on the hover state - it makes it feel like the link has disappeared and on pages with multiple links in a list, it upsets the rhythm with the appearing/disappearing of the links.

Great solid start though and I wish you luck :)

Ok thank you Paul for the input. Very much appreciated.

One last thing Paul, two questions. Thanks again

1) One a scale one to ten (ten being the highest, one the lowest) what number would your rate it?

2) If you were an employer, wouid you hire the interviewee base on this site? yes or no.

My two cents based on 5 minutes of futzing around: Conceptually, it's a beautiful site. Functionally, there's too much work (too many clicks) to get to usable information. It's not immediately apparent that you have to click on the caret looking character on the home page in order to get any kind of navigation. Once on a page, I have to click back to get back to the main navigation. The work and whoami sections have subnavigation on opposite sides of the page (ie, one page has it on the left, the other on the right), which kinda breaks the serene, zen-like flow I feel you're trying to achieve.

I hope this doesn't sound too negative - I really think it's a visually lovely design, and some of the transitions are pretty cool. But -l those are cool the first time and tedious the second/+ time. Overall, I think it works better as a showcase of javascript/CSS techniques rather than a functional, usable site that I'd want to visit more than once.

No not taking any of your feedback negative. Very constructive, much appreciated. Thanks Cena

Hey

I found the colours a little too bright for example your using a solid "white" background, which i have read that is too much to stare at for a while, so try using softer whites and see how it feels.

You have x3 links at the bottom of the landing page.... i have a question for you... which one would you like me to click? Could try making one a little more emphasised and help people along with where you want them to go?

I think you may be making it a little hard for people to contact you, again I would possibly have your most favourite way you would like people to contact you auto showing

Ive not seen a site like this before so great job so far, hope ive helped and not been critical in a bad way.... better than i have done so far!!

Perfect, no not too critical at all. Thank you Chris for the feedback.

creativity, design and skills... i really dont know lol but i would say around 8/10 however with the few issues i would bring it back down to around 6.5/10 Bring down the barriers and help your users use your site more easily i think and the few other tweaks.

If i was an employer you would not make it to the interview at all.

Now I am not saying you are not good enough, but lets be real... with so many excellent portfolios landing in their email box, would you consider your site or would you look at the more polished perfected sites? On the other hand, I may be an employer looking for someone with the spark of potential, so maybe you would make it to the interview in this case, but you had better polished off that site by the time you get there!!! :)

Hope that helps and not offends, and these are just my thoughts so open for debate!!

Nope, not offended at all. Thanks for the great input, Im just looking to improve. C ya
