In "Build a simple ruby on rails application" the scaffolding for statuses and the corresponding database system is already set up, which was not covered by any of the videos.
Is there somewhere else I can learn how to do this?

8,992 PointsThat's the beauty of Rails!!! The rails generate command creates all that stuff. Don't skip any of the videos. Follow along and you'll get there.

The generation/programming of that code was not documented whatsoever, which seems to be the main building blocks of the statuses system. Was this code programmed by treehouse staff or installed using a gem?
