631 PointsSo frustrated
1:30 am and frustrated as hell. Even the basics make me feel like an idiot. I'm moving through the classes, but not really sure if I am learning anything. Anyone else just starting out and feeling the same?

Courses Plus Student 1,111 PointsI just started as well keep your head up you can do it. I felt the same way but it is getting better. I'm watching the one about CSS and wow there is so much to learn. I will have to watch this one over a couple times and practice for sure. But I love how they show examples of work right after they make the changes. The video that was a little hard for me to follow was the one about making an HTML email. Good luck with your learning something new.

Please don't be disheartened! You'll find that when you start putting the skills you're gaining into practice, it'll all sink in so much better. Maybe think of something you can build as practice, just to help you see how it all fits into place in a proper project! Even if it's something really basic, it'll help I promise you.
Chin up mate!

6,138 PointsEven though the concept and material is intended for newbie and the teachers are trying to make learning as easy as possible, there are steep learning curves. If I never did any programming before, I would stumble and wonder the same questions you asked.
My suggestion is watching the lessons as many times as you can and post questions so TeamTreeHouse community can help out.

631 PointsThat's what i'm planning on. I've just gotten through the HTML and CSS videos and already know I will need to revisit them. I just have to develop the habit of reaching out when I get stuck.

3,723 PointsYou're doing the smells like bakin thing now, right? This is actually more like an overview of the stuff you're going to learn in the HTML and CSS deep dives. Instead of going over them twice as others recommended, I strongly urge you to progress to the separate HTML and CSS courses first, which take a lot more time to explain the concepts and are way more thorough than the smells like bakin minisite that kind of throws you in the middle of it.
Anyway, don't feel overwhelmed by that first course, and if you want to take my advice, check out the HTML and CSS deep dives before going back to it.

2,225 PointsAdam Sackfield , I'd really love that cheat sheet you made for yourself. I understand the concepts well enough but when I go to actually code my own projects,I sometimes forget the fine details and have to go back and look stuff up. Id' really love to have tha quick reference. Please email me at sluen001@outlook.com!!
Thank you so much!
happy Coding!

4,571 PointsInstead of focusing on how they use HTML tags, memorize what the tags do instead. All that really matters is that you learn what each tag does. Tags are just like Lego blocks, you can use them to build many different things but you need to understand how each one works. If you see code that the video is not teaching about, ignore it, you'll learn about it later. You may be feeling like you aren't learning anything because you are curious about other code that the video didn't talk about.

631 PointsThanks everyone. I'm sure it will sink in with enough trial and error. I appreciate all of the words of encouragement. Adam, if you could email that cheat sheet to jpg0083@live.com I would really appreciate it.

Courses Plus Student 232 PointsHey..Im new also. Very new. Im also nearing retirement and was told by my boss that I should leave the computer manipulation (was working in Excel) to the "younger ones". Subsequently was asked to resign when I breathed "Age Discrimination". I was driven to this because I am in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of a North Dakota Blizzard at the moment, and I need a pretty snazzy website for something I want to startup next year. Im smart and I can do this! I am going over the lessons a couple of times and writing everything down. I figure Greek will make perfect sense eventually. So hang in there..if I can, you can. With a lil help from the nice people on this site.

Courses Plus Student 19,663 PointsJustin George Don't let it get you down I watched the videos on HTML and CSS several times to get it to sink in. First i would watch with full attention, then watch again while making notes, then go away and take some of the skills they teach and try them on your own made up project to ensure it sticks. Repetition is the key. Also i have a cheat sheet i made which would be of assistance to you for quick reference post your email and will send it to you.
