So i was playing with irb when..

.. this happened:

>>> first = 1
=> 1
>>>second =2
=>2
>>>first << second 
=> 4

4! 

first + second is 3
first * second is 2
first ** second is 1

and second << second is 8 !

I can't figure out why, Im sure its very simple. But I don't see it.

so yeah, thats what happened.

x << n takes x and shifts its binary representation n digits to the left. That results in x << n being equal to x * 2^n
