CSS

so many asterisks in comment coding?

In the Treehouse: CSS workspace CSS practice page there is comment coding for a number of items such as top bar color and body styling. In the video Joy says the comment coding is just "/" (opening) and "?" (closing). In the practice page though there's a whole line of asterisks after the "?" and a whole line before "?." Why so many asterisks?

Hi Lee Ann,

Can you link to the video that you're on right now or post a snapshot of your workspace?

You mentioned question marks in your question but I guess you meant asterisks? I don't see any ?

A css comment begins with /* and ends with */.

Anything in between, including more asterisks, are considered part of the comment and will be ignored by the browser.

This style of comment block is a matter of preference. It's mainly to make the different sections of your css file stand out.

If you're scanning a long css file, those rows of asterisks will really stand out among all the style declarations and then you'll know you're in a different section.

In the "How to make a website course" Nick uses them like this:

/*************************
GENERAL
**************************/

Not as many asterisks as Joy used but same overall idea.

here you go!

/***********************************************
Top bar color
***********************************************/

fixed code formatting

This post here will show you how to post your code so that it's properly formatted: https://teamtreehouse.com/forum/posting-code-to-the-forum
