So one question, the function here is the "def" right? And the "yell" and "text" are technically made up names only?

def is a python keyword which means we are defining a Python function or as Craig calls it Python "method" on the same line. It MUST be there to define a function.

yell is the function name, it is "made up" or arbitrary-- it is good programming practice to use meaningful names so the code can be easily read/maintained by others.

text is the function's parameter (or input variable), it is "made up" or arbitrary too -- just like function names, variable names should be meaningful for the same reasons (readability/maintainability).
