so why does al of this coding show nothing but my name in preview?

I'm not quite sure why you're having this issue. I copied your code into codepen.io and everything showed up.

I did notice that after your closing anchor tag around portfolio there is an extra a>. It possible that might be causing a problem.

Looking at your code it looks to me like you're missing components of the html structure.

Strange. It showed up fine in codepen for me as well. Maybe my workspace is buggy?
