Spritekit with non-retina artwork

In many tutorials with sprite kit they include non-retina artwork. Sprite kit requires iOS7+ to run. iPhone 3GS (latest non-retina device) isn't compatible with iOS7 so why would I need to create non-retina artwork? Am I missing something? Is there a reason? With spritekit, the non-retina artwork would never get used. Is that correct? Thanks in advanced.

you are right about the phones, but I think iPad 2 (non retina) models are also iOS 7 compatible, and they don't have retina so you would need standard images for those.

Good point. I never really thought about that since the project they were doing was iPhone only. Another point I didn't think about was they very well could have had the same game artwork in a cocos2d tutorial as well I guess. Ok cool thanks. Just wanted to verify if both artworks were needed for iPhone only games with Spritekit. Sometimes I just look too closely at tutorials, speaking of which, can't wait wait for the upcoming Spritekit tutorials on here as well.
