This error message is not very descriptive so it doesnt give me any clues as to what needs changed. Ive tried to str(num), but that doesnt seem to work either. also im getting an error when I use num**2, im stuck.

squared.py
def squared(num):
    try:
        int(num)
        return(num * num)
    except TypeError:
        num_two = (len(num))
        return(num*num_two)

I figured it out. It's a bit tricky but there is a hint in the comments what you need to do. You don't need to make additional variables and just do the conversion in the returns.

# EXAMPLES
# squared(5) would return 25
# squared("2") would return 4
# squared("tim") would return "timtimtim"

def squared(num):
        try:
            return(int(num) * int(num))
        except ValueError:
            return(num * len(num))
