styles.css page is blank

i dont know how to change the color of the h1, since styles.css is empty

Yeah it is supposed to be empty, you just have to add the code there that will change the h1 to purple. I don't know what is that styles.css code you posted? It is not part of this challenge. There is not even an element in the index.html with the class ".tag"

the challenge is after inline css, and not the external css

No, you have to put the styles in the styles.css, oherwise why would it exist and be linked in the html file
