JavaScript The Module Pattern in JavaScript

Sub module pattern not working?

When I get to the sub module pattern my editor keeps showing an error message with the . period. Is this video outdated? Are periods allowed for sub module? Where am I going wrong?

Here is my code

var awesome.sub = (function(exports) {

            var exports = {
                foobar: 55,
                foobaz: 88
            };

            exports.helloMars = function() {
                console.log('Hello Mars from sub module pattern!!!');
            };

            exports.goodbyeMars = function() {
                console.log('Goodbye Mars from sub module pattern!!!');
            };

            return exports;
}(awesome.sub || {}));

awesome.sub.helloMars();
awesome.sub.goodbyeMars();
