Techdegree? Which ones for me?

Hi All,

Just looking at the tech degree and I'm not too sure which one to go for. I'm looking at either full stack javascript or java web development. I want to have a vast as possible amount of knowledge so i can do big projects. ideally learn how to make advanced wordpress themes and high end sites. Also i cant find the pricing? how much are the courses?

Thanks for any help!

Have a look at the projects. I think the Javascript one looks more thorough... and the cost is $200 a month as far as I know.

Hi Daniel,

$200 a month? WOW! Wasn't expecting that. can anyone verify that? and yeah i will probably go for the Javascript one.

Thanks

Phil,

There's a couple of pages that actually detail a lot of the specifics for each Techdegree, including pricing: https://teamtreehouse.com/techdegree/full-stack-javascript https://teamtreehouse.com/techdegree/java-web-development

As for which one you should choose, I think that's mostly a matter of what interests you more, but it sounds like you're interested in things you can create with an understanding of some front-end programming. Javascript is used a lot in the front-end, so based on your interests I would say go for Full Stack Javascript.

Hi Nicolas,

I've looked on those pages and all it says is start your free trial and no sign of pricing. can you post the pricing on here if you know them please?

Thanks

Hi Phil,

As you can see looking at the links Nicolas Hampton gave you, it's expensive. But as an alumni of the front end web development techdegree, I can really recommend the techdegree programs! The techdegree helped me land a job that I really love, and the money was well spent. I would do it all over again if I could, the Slack community you get to be part of is amazing and you never feel alone.

I even got stuck with the dreaded Imposter Syndrome mid techdegree and was about to give up when the people in Slack (other techdegree students and staffmembers) really pushed me through it. So there's a lot of "invisible" value in the techdegree, the fantastic support you get from eachother is one of those things.

If you can afford it I would really recommend the techdegree, but then again I am really biased ;)

I hope that helps you Phil (And anyone stumbling on this thread), if you have any other questions, feel free to tag me! :)

Invest in yourself, that has no price, and if it gives you a job and the returns are even only 2x then it was worth it. I wish there were an ASP C# Techdegree... any news about that staff guys?

Hi stjarnan ,

Thanks for the information on the techdegree. How long did it take you to complete it? How many hours did you spend on it a week/day?

I think it took me about 8 months to complete, I spent about 3 hours a day, (But not on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays) during projects I probably spent somewhere around 8 hours a day. I spent a lot of time trying to solve problems or trying to improve my projects before submitting.

In the end it was all worth it as I landed my first job one month after finishing. I even got to choose which company to work for as I had two offers.

I hope that helps :)
