The best translating http://vacationrentalsquebeccity.com (I built in html/css/JQuery into wordpress/bootstrap

Hello Zac,

I am reviewing your tutorial from Bootstrap to Wordpress.

What is the best strategy of converting http://vacationrentalsquebeccity.com (I built this) to Bootstrap/Wordpress?

My goal for this course was to built a responsive website for a vacation rental business that has 10 condos. It also has to have a reservation system. I love the design that I built, now the task is how do I best translate to Wordpress/Bootstrap.

http://vacationrentalsquebeccity.com

I will start with defining the functionality for the website.

Functionality for the website

Overall mobile responsive (WP /?boothstrap) Site design should have capacity for growth- for listing rentals in other countries like Toronto, Victoria. ex. online reservation/booking system. Backend Manage client booking through a central calender ( like google Calender) and syc with booking.com, expedia, vrbo and flipkey/tripadvisor Manage cleaning schedule for all condos can book online with cc info. directs to payment chase site for booking and the owner has 24 hours to confirm the booking Can send Welcome letter when booking is confirmed. Frontend Availability Calender for each condo (check if condo is available) Rates for each condo Book now button If a condo becomes available for there requested, to send an alert to the guest- Tripadvisor does this for flight tickets. (not important only if possible) Multiple languages. Video tour - photo gallery for each condo. reviews page Option 1:

Builit a custom site in bootstrap using http://roots.io/starter-theme/ and than transition to Wordpress. This is way beyond my skill level.

Option 2:

Using existing vacation rental themes in bootstrap and wordpress. There are many hotel themes, but not vacation rental themes.

https://wrapbootstrap.com/themes/wordpress

Option 3:

Wordpress responsive theme that is not bootstrap.

Now there is a plugin that converts it to bootstrap but I am not sure if this is a good idea.

https://www.icontrolwp.com/our-wordpress-plugins/wordpress-twitter-bootstrap-css-plugin-

Wordpress responsive themes.

Option 4: any???

Now, I will also add a Booking Reservation system to the site.

Options I am considering:

https://www.jomres.net/ (serious contender)

http://easyreservations.org/premium/ (it is used on this site and I spoke to the owner and he was happy with the system - http://threehoursail.com/) (Serious contender)

https://www.checkfront.com/plans (These guys are using this system - http://staytofino.com/accommodations)

Concerning Bootstrap...

First thing, bootstrap is pretty cool but it sounds like it's difficult to find a Wordpress theme you like based on bootstrap. You might spend more of your time on finding a good looking, feature rich, Wordpress theme. Make sure you can also find all the plugins you need to get the features you're wanting.

From a business perspective...

If you're doing the site for a paying client I might suggest proceeding with caution if you feel the project is above your skill level. It's always better to give up a project than to get in over your head and potentially sour a relationship. If the client is aware that this would be a bit of a learning experience for you and that it might be time consuming, then you're probably ok.

Releasing Features Incrementally...

You might have to just get the Wordpress site built, then work on the other features one at a time as your skill level increases. This way you're getting something delivered sooner which will usually give the client some satisfaction while you work on the next release.

To summarize, I like Option 3 with no bootstrap conversion. Then get the booking system integrated, then your additional features.

Good Luck!!

Hi Ron,

YES! Thank you very much for sharing your insights. I am going to go with Option 3. Is your expertise in Wordpress. Do you do contract work?

Cheers,

Selina

Hi Selina,

My advise would be to first checkout Zac's Wordpress beginner course. In this course he explains how to convert a static webiste to a WP theme. Also Zack explains more about the website page hierarchy, which you absolutely need to build a theme in Roots.

If you are creating this website for a client, You want to checkout the DIVI Theme from Elegant Themes. It has a very user friendly pagebuilder with lots of features. This can help you focus more on the design/content (for now) and get the job done in time.

If you need help just let me know. I can help you for a few hours, for an hourly fee, if you get stuck or can't find the right plugin.
