The Bootcamp question?

Basically I've decided I want to switch careers from the Environmental field to a coding and web design, Which is something I've always been around and been into. I've been on Treehouse learning HTML,CSS, Javascript and Ruby so far doing to Ruby track.

I was searching bootcamps in the area, and came across one thats 12 weeks, 3400 dollars. I'm going to check out the session before I decide to join but I'm pretty much made my mind up to join.

Small problem is the requirement of a macbook/air which is 800-900 bucks , which kinda sucks. You apparently get 80% of tuition back if you don't have a job offer after your 12 weeks +.

The macbook thing annoys me because I have a legit PC that can do it all.

Pros and Cons on this all people?

Thanks,

I've never tried to find a bootcamp, I don't even know if It exists around my area... However, I've read some posts/articles about that and It seems you have to take care when you choose to take part in this kind of adventure. First off, as you see I'ts quite expensive, you might think It's not if you find a job quickly after finishing this one but how many people really get a job after such a short amount of time of coding experience ? I think that's the question to have, If I were you I would try to find some people who followed this bootcamp and get their opinion. Maybe there are people here willing to give your their advices if they've followed some of them. On my side I'm not sure I would have been job ready after such a short amount of time, I have the feeling to be a slow learner. For this, Treehouse allows me to take the time I need to learn things I want and to get ready for a job. I think that's the perfect tool for me. However, maybe you'll have many advantages by registering to this bootcamp, I mean, maybe you'll meet some people in the industry ready to hire you, maybe you'll learn many things in this short amount of time !! Honestly I don't know, but if I were you, once again, I would really pay attention before registering and try to get the experience of some people.

I went through a coding school myself and can say that it was helpful - but please be careful when making a decision, because some coding schools are much better than others. The key is to read alumni reviews.

Checkout Coding Bootcamp Reviews for alumni reviews of coding boot camps.

Read about the pros and cons of the best coding schools as well as talk to alumni from different programs - it will help you make a more informed decision!

www.switchup.org has a lot of info on coding bootcamps and online courses that you will find helpful when deciding between coding schools. They publish articles and tips for prospective students and it contains a directory of all the online/offline schools - I'd recommend joining their mailing list.

Hope that is helpful for you!
