There was an error with your code: TypeError: 'null' is not an object (evaluating 'answer.toUpperCase')

When I delete '.toUpperCase' and change 'JAVASCRIPT' to 'Javascript' -- I get an error that says: Comparing strings is case sensitive. So 'Javascript' or 'javascript' is not equal to 'JavaScript'

Either way I write it, I can't move on in the lesson...

app.js
var answer = prompt('What is the best programming language?');
if ( answer.toUpperCase() === 'JAVASCRIPT' ) {
  alert("You are correct");
}
index.html
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
  <title>JavaScript Basics</title>
</head>
<body>
<script src="app.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

Hi Courtney,

You're pretty close with that - you've done the hard bit!

The question wants you to test for equality with the string "JavaScript" - that's what the tests behind the compiler are doing. You don't want to convert to uppercase; you want to test against the exact string given. So your code should look something like:

var answer = prompt("What is the best programming language?");
if (answer === "JavaScript"){
  alert("You are correct");
}

I hope that helps.

Steve.

Right I get that but when I delete '.toUpperCase' and change 'JAVASCRIPT' to 'Javascript' -- I get an error that says: Comparing strings is case sensitive. So 'Javascript' or 'javascript' is not equal to 'JavaScript'

Either way I write it, I can't move on in the lesson...

You need a capital S in JavaScript.
