this sites font color

Who decided to use light grey for the default text color. Not a good usability choice!!!

Hey Mary,

I find the light grey text on the white background has a good enough contrast for easy reading. It is down to personal preference, so you'll never please everyone. I'd also say its difficult to get both accessibility and aesthetics spot on, and this is one of the few sites that seems to have achieved it.

If you're having difficulty reading the font, can you let me know what browser you are using, and i'll let you know how you can amend the browsers default font settings, and even contrast settings depending on what you use

Hope this is all OK

=)

It isn't high contrast. Easy on the eyes is high contrast. Mary is right. For a site that teaches usability and good web design, this is an oversight (maybe under sight?). Probably the majority of people are young and don't think older people or those with low vision code.

Mary, what I wind up doing is highlighting the text as I read. Kind of a hassle, but much easier to read.

Hey Michelle,

Have you looked at your browser settings and changing the default font colour? This would probably be worth while as it will change all fonts for any site you visit. I guess at the very least, it will save any RSI from constantly highlighting text =)

In Chrome, a person can change the font and the font size, but not the color in settings. As a web developer, I would not want to override my CSS anyway. Why do you think the vast majority of sites use black? Answer: a black font on a white background is a high contrast, thus making the site more readable and easier on the eyes.
