Web Development Techdegree Student 3,317 PointsTreehouse Career Program launching across the West Coast!
This week, we will begin opening the Treehouse Career Program to students in and around the following cities:
- San Francisco, CA (and Bay Area)
- Los Angeles, CA
- Portland, OR
- Seattle, WA
If you're in or close to one of these cities and are interested in the Career Program, read on. If not, stay tuned! We're rolling it out slowly so we're able to give students individual attention and career advice that is relevant to local job markets.
What is the Treehouse Career Program?
The Career Program is a guided tool to help you prepare for a new job in technology. After joining, you'll answer a few questions about your career goals and we'll prepare a custom curriculum to help you become job-ready. You'll complete Tracks and independent projects to build your skills, create a professional profile, practice some interview questions, and more.
Throughout the process, we'll reach out to share career advice and make sure you're on track. Once you've completed the required steps, we'll review your information and then begin connecting you with prospective employers.
How can I join?
To receive an invitation to join, be sure that your profile has your current city in the Location field, and that you have answered "Yes" to "I am looking for work". We'll be inviting students as quickly as we're able to support them.

Web Development Techdegree Student 3,317 PointsTwiz T: Sure, you will be on the list as long as your account is not paused. It's our aim to support remote and contract work, but that's dependent on demand from employers. Most job placements will likely be for full-time positions in the early stages of the program.

5,373 PointsIf you're early on in your Treehouse learnin', and you're not at all comfortable climbing into a career chute before you've had a chance to try out an adequate batch of coursework to see what interests and fits you in particular...is it 'okay' if you defer starting the opportunity for now, or will this trepidation count against you at some point?
Milo Winningham
Web Development Techdegree Student 3,317 PointsMatt Varner: Take your time, it won't count against you. :)

13,116 PointsI hope you have such opportunities for international students as well, in the future. I am not in the U.S.A, but I like the idea and wished I could take part.

4,756 PointsI live in Southern California and am very interested in some career guidance. However, if I live far enough from L.A. where a daily commute would be impractical, is it still possible for me to be invited?
Diana Lescure
11,455 PointsI would be really awesome if the opportunities for international students open, some of us are perfectly capable of working remotely :)

8,608 PointsI just read this blog post now, so I have updated my profile. Can I be added to this program?
Jesse Price
Courses Plus Student 14,333 PointsI don't see an option for clicking "Yes" for "I am looking for work." Does this have any bearing on if you are signed up under a group? I'd be very interested in this program.
Milo Winningham
Web Development Techdegree Student 3,317 PointsRhonda Kate Johnson, Wayne Chaw and Jesse Price: You're all invited now!
For everyone else, I don't have a timeframe for further expansion but we're definitely planning on it. Our focus at the moment is working with students in the areas we believe we can be most effective with job placement. We'll use those successes to further develop the program into something that will be useful to students worldwide.

591 PointsI'm in Portland and I learned about CodeOregon from a flier I saw at a nearby bookstore. I signed up yesterday in the hopes of improving my web design skills and landing a job (ideally the sooner the better).
Will I be expected to pay for this service? I'm confused as to whether or not it is actually free or if I am only using a trial version that will lead to a monthly payment system...
I'm also curious about the job far - I can't find any information about it online, and haven't received any emails about it. When will we know more?
Thank you!
Matt Varner
5,373 PointsI am a Code Oregon student in Salem (waiting to move to the Portland area at some point). None of this should be construed as issuing from the Treehouse team or WorkSource Oregon, and anything they send you obviously supercedes my unofficial contribution. I'm just a guy with a dream, too.
That being said, from the Code Oregon website: "Code Oregon is a partnership between Worksystems and Treehouse, one of the nation’s leading online interactive education platforms."
I imagine when you signed up, you had to provide a working email, and that you should be receiving information soon about what to do next. Barring any changes since last July...and please don't quote me, but I think it went something like this for me: for thirty days or sixty days, you may have a window of time to peruse Treehouse's offerings, see if you like it (how could you not?). Then, in order to continue with the Code Oregon program (which means access to the Basic Membership...not the Pro version), you need (in that time frame - the sooner, the better) to get together with a worker at your local WorkSource Oregon office (i.e., Worksystems) in order to register for a WorkSource ID. You then register your valid WorkSource ID in your Treehouse profile, and start (or in this case, continue with) your learning adventure.
When I started, my local office had barely even heard of Code Oregon...but luckily they had had a meeting about it the day before, and I got together with a case worker, signed up for the WorkSource Oregon registry, did some required stuff for them, talked about Treehouse and my plans for world domination that this opportunity hopefully presents, uploaded a resumè on the iMatchSkills site, received my worker number, and was then able to input that into the appropriate field in my Treehouse profile...not necessarily in that order.
I have high hopes for this program, and I think you should, too. Hope this helps. I would look out for that email, or send one to Treehouse Support (the ? button in the bottom left of the UI...if you're viewing this on a desktop).
Tara Swenson
591 PointsThanks Matt Varner! I just looked into the Worksource thing yesterday and was able to sign up with them through their website and got a worker number that way, and I added the info to my Treehouse account. I'm hoping this means they will see the number and I won't get billed? I'll send them an email to follow up. Appreciate the input.

2,619 PointsHi Milo,
I live in Seattle and want to participate! Would love to learn more about this :) I'm looking for what to do next in terms of my career, because though I'm very motivated, it would be awesome to take classes that will lead more directly to a job and have support from someone. Thanks!!
