I can't get my head around the binary tutorial - is there a different lesson?

It is like this
Think of these as placeholders
128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
  0 0 1 0 1 0 0 0
Then add the values over the 1's = 40
Again
128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
  0 1 0 0 0 0 0 1
Add the values = 65

Yeah the link that Michael posted explains it very well.
