Unity gives an error: "SpeedTree materials need to be regenerated"

How do I respond to this error: "SpeedTree materials need to be regenerated." I already tried reimporting the project.

You need to regenerate the assets. Navigate to the assets in the asset folder and click on them to bring up the inspector. There will be an option in the inspector to regenerate the asset. Saving the project, closing it and reopening should work also as this is due to Unity recreating the library folder for the import which is a standard behavior for Unity.
