Unofficial slack for $99 tech degree?

Would Treehouse have an issue with an unofficial Slack channel for the techdegree? I have been taking my projects to reddit but people don't know the requirements which makes feedback difficult. I have a slack channel going if anyone is interested email me at binford.blake@gmail.com for an invite.

Offhand, the Treehouse Community (right here) would seem to be the obvious place to communicate with other students.

What would be the advantage of using a 3rd-party service?

Not everyone here is in the techdegree program. So it would be beneficial to have one place where everyone in the group was doing the same projects as you and you didn't have to filter through other posts to find the ones that are specifically from the techdegree program. A lot of the questions asked here wont have anything to do with the techdegree specific projects. The same reason treehouse utilizes a slack channel for the more expensive($199+) techdegree program.

As a regular student, I wasn't aware that Treehouse was already using that service. Why not use the one they have already set up?

I'm a bit surprised they didn't just start a "Techdegree" topic area right here. Or simply suggest that people posting about it begin their post title with "TECHDEGREE — ..."

I can't use the one they have set up because it is only available to the people that pay for the more expensive program (the $199 and up) I am in the $99 a month program which only offers access to the projects but no access to the other resources such as peer reviewed projects and graded projects.

Golly, I also didn't know there were two different Techdegree levels.

Well, that certainly explains your interest in establishing another forum.

3 levels actually...

$99 is just to access the projects

$199 you get access to the slack channel and peer reviewed grades on your projects

$399 you get professional project reviews and two mentor sessions a month.

I think its kinda crazy that they charge extra just to have the people learning alongside you to review your projects. But they have to stay in business I guess.

I don't think they'd care about an unofficial channel. But I also think you could post it here on the community and get a lot of help. I know that if I saw a thread about someone wanting a review/help on their project I'd love to help. Good luck with your TechDegree!

Thanks Blake for setting up the slack channel and for the invite, hopefully this will be a great resource for everyone.

A good place to do this might be in something like Google communities or even a facebook page. The one thing I see wrong might be the fact that each person is in a different tech degree. For instance, since I'm in the iOS program, I wouldn't necessarily be helpful to those in the Python course. Maybe sub-classes would be helpful.

The slack channel is broken down by tech degree. One for each degree.
