Hello,

I think that you have just not read the question correctly:

var id = "23188xtr"; var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase(); // it wants you to use userName to turn the var id into uppercase.

change this and you should be ok.

To what worked was this:

var id = "23188xtr";

var lastName = "Smith";

id = id.toUpperCase();

lastName = lastName.toUpperCase();

userName = id +'#'+ lastName;
