Use value for contrast, rather than color

In the video, they said to make web pages accessible for those with varying degrees of color blindness, that web pages should use value for contrast, rather than pure color.

What is "value" here?

1 Answer

'Value' is a color theory term, not the same as 'value' in the programming context. Value in the context of colors is the brightness of a color. High value: bright yellow, low value: dark blue. This is saying that you should choose colors that help people see, rather than using colors that look pretty just because.
