General Discussion

Vanishing Courses (particularly JavaScript Foundations)?

I know there was a lot of discussion about the JavaScript Foundations course and the JavaScript Basics course that replaced it. I was in the middle of the course when the Front-End Track was changed, so I stayed with JavaScript Foundations, having not had the issues that others were having with the instructor.

Now, it appears that the Foundations course has vanished completely --- it doesn't even show up in my list of "Completed Courses". If I Google "Treehouse JavaScript Foundations", it takes me to the first module of the course, but if I hit the arrow to go back to the listing of modules, it brings me to JavaScript Basics.

I understand that tracks change, and Treehouse might want to adjust which are the "recommended" courses for a topic. However, I took the course not even three months ago. I'm still just barely learning. If I want to go back and clear up a question I'm running into (which, since I take notes on the videos, is pretty easy for me to quickly zero in on the exact spot I'm looking for) ... I can't anymore.

Is there any kind of "Video Cemetery" where the discontinued courses go to die, but can still be visited by those who loved them? Some kind of an archive that doesn't show up for new learners, but is accessible to those who completed the course?

And, possibly more importantly, since I'm part of one of the TechHire programs that is using our Treehouse profiles to validate our learning process to prospective employers --- can the course still be listed in the "Completed Classes" section of our profiles {http://teamtreehouse.com/home/view:completed}?

Hey Stephanie Youstra

Unfortunately we don't have a Cemetery. They live on in our hearts and minds.

The JavaScript Foundations course has been retired and has been replaced by JavaScript Basics and JavaScript Loops, Arrays and Objects. There is a 30 day period where we announce the course set for retirement and you have 30 days to finish it.

Do you feel there's anything missing?

Regards
Andrew

Why retire a course in the first place andrew? All of these courses are simply outstanding! It pains me to see them go...

Hey Brian Wassel

There's a number of reasons. Each courses have a support burden and maintenance (for code challenges etc). We also want to eliminate confusion too, we don't want to have people say "Do I do JavaScript Foundations or JavaScript Basics".

The older courses may come back in an archive format in the future, just video only. But I'm not in charge of that sort of thing :)

Andrew

Thank you, andrew. i do hope to see the js foundations videos back in the future (when im back from vacation)

Thanks for the info, Andrew, I had a feeling that would be the case.

That being said..... did it also need to vanish from my "Completed Courses" listing? If I'm trying to give a potential employer a list of everything I've studied, it would be nice to not have to search through the as-yet-unfilterable badges to see what's been completed. As it stands now, it appears as though I've only taken one relatively brief JavaScript course, as opposed to an additional 6-hour course. And, since there's no "Track Completed" acknowledgement, it will appear as though I didn't even finish the Front-End Track {which, I understand, is still in progress for me, but once I finish the last missing bits...}, since I began the track on the "old" plan.

tl;dr ~ Can it still appear, if even linkless, in the Completed Courses section of my homepage?

As far as I can see, the JavaScript Foundation Badges are on your Profile page. I believe Completed in the library is just a filter.
