10,415 PointsWeb Design more direct marketing than art publishing online?
Hello Guys!
I was watching a video on youtube by a guy named Ben Hunt. His Pro Web Design Course is very famous. He says that web design has changed from the way it was done 20 years ago. There is a great shift now and more evidence is being unveiled that it is actually direct online marketing. Web design is not about decorating but creating a customer and keeping it he says. It is about selling and we don't need coding or design skills. Online Publishing Mechanics are available to every body. Themes are available and we don't need to build a site from scratch. He says we need to focus more on marketing and monitoring skills than art and programming. We need to focus on what to present i.e. Content rather than how to present it. We need to ask the right questions about our market and answer them appropriately. If the content is good and convincing then average presentation can do but if content is bogus then extra ordinary presentation is worthless. Do you guys agree with this? My question is directed especially to the staff and senior members? Should we learn web design in this manner?

13,023 PointsI would say he raises some great points but there needs to be a balance.
1st: Someone needs to build the themes he mentions.
2nd: A terrible looking site can take away from the content. If it is hard to navigate or unreadable or even simply unpleasent to look at it is likely I will go elsewhere.
3rd: I am confused why he is so focused on content. As a webdesigner there is only so much you can do to create content. Your client is responsible for having a worthy product or service. Your job is to present that product in an appealing and easy to understand way with a great design. If you are given minimal content to work with you will have to find a better way to present it but you simply can not whip content out of the air.
It is easy to get your content online almost anyone can do that, but only a webdesigner can real you in with color choice, a great font, a responsive page, a beautiful layout, easy navigation, and an interface designed for the user to appreciate your content.
He makes some great points and questions but I believe he leaves a lot out.
Goodluck with your webdesign! --Ricky
