Web Design or Front End Web Development?

Hi,

I am a beginner with little knowledge of HTML and CSS. Which track should I choose to start learning with? Web Design or Front end web development?

Hi Utkarsh. :-)

If you want to maximise your knowledge of HTML and CSS (this latter of which is the core design technology in Web Design, I would highly recommend the Web Design track as the track to start with. :-)

I began with front end. I plan to do both and now I am wondering if I went backwards lol. :)

I thought the design track was a more artistic path.

Hi Utkarsh Jain, this depends on your preference. Personally I would suggest start with Web Design, then move on to Front-End Web Development ;-)

Hope this helps.

Thanks Elliott for the tip.

It depends on your goals. Web design course is more focused on the design aspect, like a graphic designer, interior designer, or even an artist. The tools for a designer may be more photoshop related and color wheel stuff.(google: material design)

FrontEnd dev seems to be more related to the programing aspect of client side apps, UI/UX, and the thing the app actually does.

There is A LOT of overlap and both are rewarding. The line between front end dev and design is a fuzzy one. For many companies and startups you will need to do it all (backend as well). I plan to do both tracks. They will both start with the basics, so it doesn't matter if you don't know anything for either one. They are both perfect for complete Noobs like me and you.

So for the basics, I should start with web design and then go for front end web development(for advance level)?

That's right. You won't do much programming in the true sense of the word. HTML and CSS is more about learning to present information on a page. HTML is a markup language and CSS is a styling language.

Front End programming is in my opinion, the next step. :-)
