Website vs Web Application

Quick question, maybe a stupid one, what is the different between a website and a web application? Examples?

I think a website is generally any site on the internet. However, web application, is more of a specific type of website. A web application is dynamic and allows users to interact with it such as input data, get data, etc.

Hi Phillip. Pretty much what Erik said. A website is just a generic site that loads w pure html and css with ideally no server side language attached (PHP, Ruby or really a database). So like a web application might be more like facebook and twitter w backend algorithm capabilities to figure out who you are/where you are or what products you like the most. Make sense?
