what am I doing wrong in this line:

Try assigning it to a variable. Typically you assign modules to a variable called app.

var app = angular.module('footbar', []);

You need to assign the module to a variable, and then use the directive "ng-app = app" in the HTML somewhere to use the module. Then, you should build your controller using dot notation, "app.controller('name', function(){});
