id.toUpperCase() returns a string value with all uppercase letter so you don't have to use string concatenation. what you did was right, just delete the last line of code , userName = + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();.

The last line should be as follows:

userName += "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();
