Python

What does super() do in this example?

class HomeView(TemplateView):
    template_name = 'home.html'

    def get_context_data(self, **kwargs):
        context = super().get_context_data(**kwargs)
        context["games_today"] = 6
        return context

I have read the docs and other users questions and I have a basic grasp of super(). But I can't figure out what super() is doing in this code here. Can someone clarify? Much thanks!

Calls the get_context_data method inherited from TemplateView and keeps a reference to the output from the method call in the context variable.

Thank you for your quick response!
