What does the little "MOD" in orange mean next to some members names? Just really curious. And a bit jealous hahaha.

Thanks!

From what I see, the MOD's are amazing and so helpful. They are the heart that pump the forum blood around the Treehouse. I always get a quick adrenaline rush when I see that orange circle responding to my forum posts.

It means that the user has a status of the moderator :) He looks after the forum, making sure the rules are being followed as well as helping out others.

Hope that helps :)

Hi Charlie,

Moderators as Maciej mentioned overlook the entire forum, our main role is all round assistance but I perceive us as mentors as we're chosen not by how well we know code but by our continued dedication to help a fellow student such as yourself.

One philosophy I like to follow is helping others to help yourself results in an unexpected change, for me this was simply achieved by doing what I know best and that's helping others here on Treehouse.

If you're like this then I encourage you to push past your limits and help others on the forum whenever you can as the end result can be a very welcoming and humble email from the Treehouse communtiy manager.

There are also two very important rules to being a mod

  • You can never be wrong
  • There is never room for subtle sarcasm

Why I was picked, I still can't figure out! :)

If you want to be a mod, just work really really hard, everyday. Be active in the forums, helping where you can. Don't be afraid to be wrong, and be prepared to admit you where wrong if proven so. It's not biggie really, we all are wrong at some point. That's part of learning.

I think I've learned more by being active in the forums than I have the lessons. Short of that, we help by reformatting your markdown language so images, links, or code appear correctly in the forum; or mark answers as best so that it might be helpful for someone else later who comes across that thread. Just generally helpful things.
