What exactly is a web server?

I am constantly hearing server and web server, etc etc.

Whats the difference between the two?

Explain like I am five.

People use the terms interchangeably. In short a web server handles HTTP requests that a browser sends. The browser goes " Hey I need the code for this particular page" and the server sends it. That's just one example though.

I recommend the HTTP course for a better understanding.
