Hey Joel,

I think this is a question with many different answers depending on the product/service you are testing for, but I think the most important question and one of the first ones you should be asking is "Would you pay $x.xx to use/have this? (Be specific with the price point... if you ask just "would you pay for this?", most will have a knee jerk reaction of "No." However, with a specific price point, people are forced to think about the value of the product/service. This can give you an indication of what others think your ???? is worth.

Other questions could be:

  1. Would you use this more that 3 times a week?

  2. Is this something you would tell your friends about?

  3. How much time would this save you?

But depending on what it is you are trying to validate, the questions would be more specific and targeted to the product/service. You do, however, want them to be specific and not give them an 'easy answer'. So, instead of "would you use this?", you ask "would you use this more than three times a week?". This forces them to really think and give a more detailed and honest answer.

I hope this helps some for you. :)
