I believe you'll get difficulties in learning a new language if you are not familiar with the recommendations. For instance, before learning server scripting, you may be recommended to be comfortable with Javascript. So, as Kai said, it depends. But to me, server programming seems much more complex.

English is mine :/

But I have NEVER coded before starting Treehouse, and I am starting to get the hang of really any of the courses I have taken. The "starter" languages are HTML CSS and PHP, these are easy to put together and you can start making sites that are responsive. I am on RUBY track and at times feel lost, but doing the extra credit really helps you use what you just learned.

When it comes down to it you just have to ask your else what are you looking to really do? This video helped me out a lot.

I choose Ruby because of an online app idea that i really want to make. If you are looking to make sites that are then take them to the next step then you might use PHP or Java script. Your not stuck just taking one think, skill that you learn in one course can be used in other course.
