What is this error? "java.lang.NullPointerException ()"

I don't understand what I am doing wrong from what I am being asked to do "Define a string variable named firstName that stores your name. Set the value to your name."

Name.java
// I have setup a java.io.Console object for you named console
String firstName = console.readLine("Tashfin Shahid");
console.printf(firstName,"can code in Java!");

String firstName = console.readLine("Tashfin Shahid"); console.printf("%s can code in java",firstName);

you forgot to input the formatter for String data type(%s). I have rewritten your code and input it for you. I think it should work now.
