What is wrong here? It's pretty straight forward. Is it an error in the system or something I'm not seeing?

Yup you're missing the slash which end the command on the first line of your css file =)

you removed the closing / for the comment on line 1 in style.css it should look like this:

/* Complete the challenge by writing CSS below */
