What is your opinion of best wordpress hosting in terms of website speed?

I wan't to build a small social network in wordpress. Had a website in Joomla! hosted on one.com. It took about one minute to load completely. I wont make the same mistake again!

Therefor, I'm asking you. Who is the best wordpress-hosting-provider (in terms of speed) according to you and why?

Thanks! :-)

/Emil

I'm currently using Media Temple for my portfolio which is built with WordPress http://deanwagman.com

I've never really have had a problem with speed. Keep in mind a lot of what the user perceives as 'fast' has to to do with the weight of your website and the large files. Try to keep it as lightweight as possible.

Also, whether you are on a dedicated, or shared server also is a big factor. A shared server is 1 physical computer with several sites hosted on it. So you will be taking a speed hit as there is a lot more traffic on the machine that doesn't have to do with your site. Dedicated servers are for your site only. But these can be pretty expensive.

I use the shared server as I'm just hosting my portfolio and simple personal projects that aren't making me money so there's no point and paying the extra price for the extra performance.

As for using Media Temple, from what I've noticed, they're very professional in what they do. Their machines are fast, and up to date. The use SSD for storage which helps with speed. It's a little more expensive than the other guys, but from what I've noticed it's perfect for my needs.

It really all depends on what you're going to be hosting.

I would highly recommend SiteGround. Spend a few minutes on their site and you'll understand why. :)

I would give you the link, but being a customer they count referrals.

I have many sites hosted there and -for me- is the best company I've found. (side note: I used to work for internet services & hosting companies).
