So I want to switch careers.
I am 37, have a family and an almost fulltime job, finished a Bsc in civil engineering a long time ago and professional photoschool a couple of years ago. The area I live in has a lot of web/internet companies (Amsterdam)
My coding experience before I started Treehouse was minimal, but I HTML and CSS are going very well. JavaScript is tricky sometimes, but I am getting there. jQuery makes sense sofar. I consider myself a quick learner.
Besides learning coding, I think about getting certified as scrum master.
I am writing a personal plan to make things clear for myself. One of the questions I find hard to answer is this: How long does it realisticly take to get job-ready as a frontend developer. Are we talking about a couple of months? Almost a year? Or maybe years?
What are your thoughts?
Cheers, Jasper

Treehouse Moderator 91,254 PointsI've heard stories of people who have gotten jobs after 6 months of using Treehouse. But I don't think there's a definitive answer to this question as it's so individual. It depends upon the person, their learning strategy. how fast they learn. what they want to achieve. But Treehouse is a great place to achieve your goals, no doubt about that.

13,830 PointsThanks Jonathan.
I have my first html/css meetup visit planned.
Meeting over lunch soon with someone who knows the industry. And my wife has many connections in the internet-branche I can use.
Now it's up to me to work/study hard :-)
I still have to find a balance between learning and using the learned skills. Fortunatly one can always revisit a course here at treehouse.

I'm kinda struggling with your problem in that I want to apply new skills I learned on Treehouse to my projects but I guess I don't push myself to do it enough.
Of course I'm going to have to practice with real life projects some time but it's hard to find the projects, the motivation and faith in myself to do it. I'm a Dyspraxic and Dyslexic thinker you see so it's a specific learning difficulty.
So apart from running my business (which I do completely on my own) I spend a lot of time learning and developing my skills and my belief is that Treehouse is going to help get me there and one day, I'll have that Eureka moment; thjat things are just going to "click" into place. If Treehouse doesn't get me there, then literally nothing else will. :)
