8,992 PointsWhat's on your Treehouse wish list?
This topic is just for fun-- what things, little or big, would you like to see added to, changed (or even deleted from) Treehouse?
I'll start us off--
When I finish a course, I want to see some hoopla! Maybe a video of a marching band, a parade, fireworks, balloons, a pat on the back, flowers, hoorays, cheerleaders, a toast, psychedelic fractals, or anything else fun to celebrate my accomplishment.
I loved the Deep Dive Database (with MySQL) course-- would love to see a Database Administrator (DBA) track.
Would like notification of when track courses change. The CSS course went on forever and ever and ever and then some-- I quit before the very end and thus went off the Rails Development track, taking courses al la carte as it were. Just checked the Rails Track again, and CSS is not on it.
Would like a course on building a portfolio, perhaps tailored for each track. It could be a work in progress with additions made with each course. Many of us are taking classes to launch a career, and a portfolio would be a great asset. Maybe after each course add sections for a Final Review, a Final Exam, Job Interview Questions, and all non-video downloads and links (in one place instead of scattered), in addition to ideas of what to add to one's portfolio.
Saved my best wish for last-- would like to get a discount on the monthly subscription rate after achieving so many points (gained via courses and contributing on the forum).
Okay, your turn! What would you like to see in Treehouse? Oh, and what do you think of my list items?

6,595 PointsI had an idea earlier that I sent to support. I'd like to see a notebook feature that allows you to save certain codes or specific parts of tracks for reference. For instance, I know I won't use tables much, but when the time comes I'd like to see reference material. I don't like the idea of having to watch the videos again, when all I need is a refresher.

37,033 PointsI only have 2 things on my wishlist
- AJAX basics (and it's coming soon I just can't wait)
- More reward videos (hit the end of creative control and I'd love to see more)

39,199 Points- +1 for notifications when tracks change.
- +1 for a final project at the end of each deep dive

15,099 PointsI'd love to see a course on swift, apples new language.
Michelle Cannito
8,992 PointsI heard Swift is to replace Objective-C. Unfortunately for me, you need a Mac to make Apple / iOS apps. You can get a Swift course free for a limited time here: udemy.com/learn-swift-programming-to-make-ios-apps/?couponCode=BHF

31,522 PointsTutorials on art programs such as Photoshop and GIMP.
Game programming. such as Unity3D.
Code tutorials for PC over Apple. I'm in the UK and over here nearly everyone uses a Windows system.
Mini-features on sites such as Tumblr, Github. How best to use them and build a portfolio.

37,033 PointsThere is a photoshop and an illustrator class on the web designer track

28,736 PointsAs stated in an earlier post I did. I'd like a pay per view system for the workshop videos. Because there are some workshops I find interesting at the moment, but others I don't want to see, and paying a gold account, just for one workshop isn't interesting, to me at least.
Jess Pendley
13,128 PointsThat would be great!

8,992 PointsPay per view is a good idea. An even better one is all content available for the $25/month subscription rate. Sites like lynda have a lot more content for the one monthly price. I think it would be a win for Treehouse, too, as people would subscribe longer if the extra content was available, and there would also be more new subscribers. In addition, there would be more recognition for the people providing the extra content, more discussion, more life. The forum would become more of a regular hangout, and people, desiring to be part of a community, would be more reluctant to let their subscription end.
Old McKesson Corporation business plan: Wrap services around your products.
My take on reason: Customers can get similar products elsewhere, even for less money, but if there are quality services (such as convenience, more information, personal support, etc.) tied to the distribution, you will have more customers, happier ones, and a higher retention rate than competitors.

28,736 PointsThat would be even better indeed, but I didn't talk about that because I doubt they will make all content available for $25. If that could be the case, I think as well there would be a lot more people. For sure...

39,199 PointsFeatures I've heard people ask for before ...
- Treehouse playlist of Library courses
- Download all videos for a single course outside of iTunes
- Practice projects
- forum category on the Leaderboard
- Make it easier to post code to the forum with a "code" input box
- Being able to share a link to your Treehouse Workspace

26,869 PointsOn the forum there is probably a lot of questions that pop up frequent maybe have a link to to the most common asked questions about course content and filter them like currently do by HTML, CSS, PHP and Billing etc

39,199 Points+1 I've often wished for this

9,995 PointsLots of great wishes.
I will just add one. I wish for a wish list of courses I want to take.

Courses Plus Student 4,129 PointsI think it'd be fantastic if Treehouse would offer certificates for each completed track. Certificates you could hang on your wall*, or include in a job application. Something official and tangible you can show off to others!
(The certificate could also include a link and/or QR code that would verify its authenticity, see edx certificates)
*even if it's just your bedroom wall! ;-)
Ricardo Diaz
30,415 PointsSomething like this?
marsha grasett
9,995 PointsNice Ricardo Diaz !
A certificate is a nice to have.
But, nothing beats showing HOW you used this knowledge.
What have you built?
( The proof is in the pudding ;)
Masum Bergmann
Courses Plus Student 4,129 PointsRicardo Diaz - NICE!! :D ...just missing signatures from those important people at Treehouse ;-) (and where is the QR-code? :p )
marsha grasett - The pudding (incl. proof) is on its way! Just about to finish my very first (homegrown) android app... Will let you all know when it's available for download on Google Play... ;-)

28,736 PointsI've forgotten to mention this, even if I really need it ! A course focusing on using ANGULARJS !!!!
Ricardo Diaz
30,415 PointsI've had three job postings in my area asking for Angular JS. I wouldn't mind seeing this as well.
Greg Kitchin
31,522 PointsDon't know if it's covered, but search-engine optimization would be good to see.

7,318 Points1) Feedback from the Treehouse crew 2) opportunity to connect to other Treehouse members and start a project
Masum Bergmann
Courses Plus Student 4,129 PointsI second that!!
There is a Treehouse fan facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/treehousefans/ but it's not really that active. I think I may revive my own group, dedicated to students who want to collaborate on projects together!
Ashlynn Pai
11,679 PointsI would like to see the community developed further. Right now it's more like Stack Overflow without the snark. Possibly add a section of the forums to introduce yourself to other students or talk about projects beyond the tutorials.
Another possibility is a premium service of being able to hire a mentor. Thinkful is charging $300 to $500 per month to meet with a mentor once per week (on top of their curriculum which seems to be based on Code School's). Can Treehouse figure out how to do that for cheaper?
Scott Paterson
26,869 PointsSmall suggestion but if related blogs posts from Teamtreehouse are tied to course material or teachers notes, that is if is there is not already on some blog posts on already.
audreysalerno
4,289 PointsBiggest wish: Summary/reference sheets of what was covered in the course in addition to the transcripts. For example, for a CSS course, a list of new properties discussed and their descriptions/attributes.
Easy win: If a T/F quiz question is False, in addition to saying "Well done!", say what would make it True. Extra reinforcement is never bad.
+1: Practice Projects. Challenge us!!
Nice to have: Keyboard shortcuts for submitting/advancing through code challenges. Code School uses this, and it's great!
Long term: How about an ideas exchange where we can easily share ideas for additions/improvements and vote on them?
geoffrey
28,736 PointsAs I knew this thread already exists I wanted to add some others ideas I 've got in the meantime.
PDF to download: One thing I would like to see, is the possibility to download a .PDF at the end of each lesson. This PDF would summarize the course and all things taught to the student. I've already seen this in some others teaching plateforms and I find it very handy.
A full-stack track: There is the possibility to follow the PHP track, then front-end and etc... for exemple. But I think that could be cool to have another track called full-stack and focusing on full projects involving all technologies, projects for exemple where you would build a website with let's say Bootstrap for the CSS & HTML, some Ajax requests handled with JQuery and PHP as well...
I would like to see it, because I find that in some circumstances even if we understand a technology, as an exemple the ajax calls, It would be cool to see how to use it with some PHP you code on your own.
Or we could have as well a simple project such as building a blog where the student will learn how to build a simple PHP API, maybe with a framework such as Laravel, and then use this one to display all the datas with Angular JS and etc...
I have this idea, because I have the feeling doing this would fill entirely the gap between the front-end track and the back-end, It would reinforce the understanding of all these technologies once mixed together, which isn't the same when used alone.
audreysalerno
4,289 Points+2 - YES and YES. PDF summaries would be so useful, and a full-stack track / big project would be fantastic.

39,199 PointsI'd agree if this was only about points from the forum. That makes it in Treehouse's best interest, you give value to the community you get something in return.
