What's the difference between "designing" a game and "coding" a game?

So there are two courses on treehouse for creating games. One course teaches you how to design a game, and the other course teaches you how to code a game. Here's the link: https://teamtreehouse.com/space-cat

Now I am a bit confused, are these two courses two whole different ways on learning how to create a game? Or do I HAVE to take both courses in order to learn how to build games? So for example, if I'm more into designing, would the first course be for me without having to worry about taking the coding course on how to build games? Or do I have to take the game design course AND the coding course? I'm really confused. More simply put: do I have to take both courses in that link? Or can I just choose one course from that link to learn how to build games?

Designing a game is making the sprites/characters and backgrounds for a game visually, i.e. in Photoshop/what have you Coding a game is making the characters move when the user presses a button and whatnot

In order to make a solid game, I would assume you would take both the design course and the coding course
