what's wrong with #div { background-color: lightblue; } I am being told it's wrong

how do I create the background color of the div element.

"div" is an element tag and should be selected by only it's name. When you add the #, the compiler is looking for an ID named "div." Should be:

div { 
  background-color: lightblue;
}

another thing is because the only <div> I perceive is the one at the end, a div should have a beginning and a closing tag.

both divs you have are opening divs
